Don & Low Boosts Nonwoven Production with High-End Converting Technology

Don & Low invests in new lamination line, chooses CAMPEN for converting technology

Scotland’s leading nonwoven technical textile manufacturer, Don & Low, invested in a new lamination line in 2022, which rapidly boosted their production capacity. To keep up with their increased output, they needed a line for high-volume roll conversion, and the choice was clear CAMPEN Machinery A/S.

Having prior experience with the reliable performance and high quality of CAMPEN’s machinery, Andrew Taylor, Plant Manager at Don & Low Nonwovens, states that choosing another machine from the supplier was a straightforward decision: We felt comfortable with CAMPEN’s machinery, which we had previously invested in, so it was an easy decision to choose another machine from them. We considered, but quickly discounted other suppliers, and never regretted that decision. The quality, service and technical backup from CAMPEN made the decision simple.”

Reliability and ergonomics key factors in selecting converting machinery

Reliability and good tension control were top priorities when selecting converting machinery as Don & Low produces a wide range of fabric weights. They already have three CAMPEN converting lines in their production, with the first one installed in 2004 and still providing valuable service. Prior to the latest high volume roll conversion line, CAMPEN also supplied a large part of the machinery for the new lamination line, namely four shaftless unwinders and a fixed shaft turret winder.

Especially the newest features of the shaftless unwinding technology made operations much more ergonomic and user-friendly for Don & Low. ”We’re very happy with the improvement from the older A-frame as manual handling is now reduced, making the operators’ lives so much easier,” says Mr Taylor.

CAMPEN also offers remote support, a feature that Don & Low values highly. According to Mr Taylor, they have received excellent support from CAMPEN, with any issues quickly and professionally resolved.

Don & Low values quality and value for money with CAMPEN partnership

Although CAMPEN’s equipment comes with a slightly higher investment cost than other winding technology, Don & Low values the quality and value they receive for their money: ”CAMPEN is not the cheapest supplier on the market, but we get much more value for our money with CAMPEN and – in the end – that is much more important for us. We look forward to continuing our good relationship with CAMPEN in the future.”
