Heavy-duty slitter rewinder solutions designed for efficient material processing

Water free fiber packaging production with dry forming technology

Water free fiber packaging production helps reduce process water, drying demand and total operating cost. CAMPEN Machinery A/S designs and delivers dry forming lines for fibre-based packaging materials. Our airlaid technology forms the fibre web with air, not water.

This gives packaging producers a reliable route to dry fibre packaging production. It also supports comparison between dry-laid and wet-laid processes before new capacity is approved. We assist with pilot trials, process engineering and complete production equipment.

Water free fiber packaging production with dry forming

The dry forming process opens, distributes and lays fibres in an air stream. It does not use a water slurry during web formation. This reduces the need for drying and removes wastewater from the forming stage.

The result is a consistent dry fibre web or sheet for further conversion. Depending on the application, the material can be pressed, thermoformed, cut, coated or laminated. This supports strength, barrier performance and formability targets in low-water manufacturing.

    Airlaid equipment for packaging materials

CAMPEN delivers airlaid machinery for packaging producers from pilot scale to industrial production. Since the 1970s, we have supplied reliable equipment for nonwovens and airlaid production. Our lines are designed to be robust, easy to operate and easy to maintain.

    • Controlled fibre dosing supports accurate grammage and reduced scrap.
    • Uniform airlaid forming helps maintain stable material quality.
    • Thermal, PLA, starch or latex bonding can support strength targets.
    • Enclosed handling and dust extraction help improve workplace cleanliness.
    • Recipe control supports faster product changes and repeatable output.
    • Energy-efficient drives and heat recovery can reduce operating costs.

Each line is configured around the required raw materials, product structure and capacity. This includes fibre preparation, forming, bonding, consolidation, winding and quality control. The aim is stable production with clear process data and simple operator routines.

Stable performance from pilot scale to production

We design airlaid lines for uptime, process control and consistent product quality. Typical configurations cover basis weights from 30 to 1,000 g/m². Producers can process cellulose fibres, recycled fibres and selected natural fibre blends.

    • Modular forming heads support planned capacity increases.
    • Web consolidation units improve strength and downstream stability.
    • Basis weight scanners support real-time quality control.
    • Closed-loop feedback helps keep production within target specifications.
    • Data logging supports audits, certification work and root-cause analysis.
    • Accessible layouts help reduce maintenance time and downtime risk.

Our engineers support fibre selection, bonding method and web design. This helps define the right balance between stiffness, thickness, absorption and formability. It also helps reduce risk before full-scale investment.

Lower water use and energy demand

Dry-laid fibre production removes the water-based forming stage used in many wet-laid processes. This can simplify permits, utilities and effluent handling. It can also reduce drying demand and related CO₂ emissions.

    • No process water in forming helps lower the water footprint.
    • A shorter process chain can reduce energy use per tonne.
    • Closed fibre handling helps reduce fibre loss and cleaning work.
    • Stable web properties improve converting efficiency and part quality.

Water free fiber packaging production can support recyclable fibres and bio-based binders. It gives producers a cleaner route to dry fibre packaging without compromising process control. This helps align production with circular packaging requirements and commercial performance targets.

    Pilot trials and scale-up support

CAMPEN offers pilot trials and joint development before industrial investment. Producers can validate recipes, bonding systems and web architecture under controlled conditions. We then use the trial results to configure a production line for the site, capacity and product range.

    • Pilot trials help reduce investment risk and speed internal approvals.
    • Process design packages support layout, utilities and capacity planning.
    • Operator training helps teams reach stable production safely.
    • Remote support helps maintain uptime during ramp-up and operation.
